Acne Control - Not So Easy

Many people tend to be embarrassed or depressed because of their uncontrollable acne.

Even after having tried all sorts of medications available on the market, including alternative acne treatments, they are still left with red, irritated skin.

This is quite a common problem because acne is not easily cured.

This problem is not restricted only to adolescents, acne can as easily affect adults.

The reason is that multiple factors that combine to cause acne can be found in nearly everyone.

Of course, if acne happens to be a hereditary problem, the cause is so deep that there is hardly any preventive medication to help.

However, despite all these difficulties, there are a few options that can be tried in order to achieve a degree of relief from acne. Before trying these options, a bit of information gathering is in order, if acne control is to be effective.

Skin type

Know your skin type. If your skin is oily, then you have too much sebum secretion and you should try gel based acne-control products. Dry skin obviously means the reverse is happening and in this case, the acne-control product should be cream based. More difficult is figuring out the skin type that lies somewhere between oily and dry.

The best option here is trial and error. Use a product and if it doesn't produce results, switch to another. Always try different methods of acne control. You never know when you might stumble onto a better option.

Skin sensitivity

How sensitive is your skin? Acne-control products come in different concentrations. The more sensitive your skin is, the lower the concentration that you should opt for. It has been widely experienced that using strong concentrations on sensitive skin will only make an acne condition worse.

Read the label

Now days, there are too many acne-control products available to choose from. Not all of these are effective and often their usage method can leave you frustrated, because they fail to prevent acne outbreaks. This makes it very important that you carefully read the label and all other descriptions about the acne-control product you intend to purchase. Now days you can even do an Internet search to read reviews of products.

OTC drugs

OTC drugs are easy to obtain but their side effects are often not known or difficult to determine. So if you use an OTC acne-control preparation and the acne becomes painful, then you should try taking some anti-inflammatory medication like ibuprofen. Of course, do not neglect consulting your doctor at the earliest.

It will be a bit of a chore to finally find an acne-control product that really works for you, but keep at it. Your doctor can always provide medication for severe cases.
